No matter how durable a cup may be, any material is subject to damage. Following the sustainability line, the Huskee group has created a programme aimed at collecting any Huskee product that people might consider disposing of, to give life to another product. Don't hesitate to support this initiative: Huskeeloopop

Coffee husks are obtained during the drying process of the coffee berries. Husks are one important by-product of the coffee processing when the coffee beans are separated from the cherry. Coffee husks are comprised of the outer skin, pulp and parchment of the coffee berry. Husks enclose the coffee beans comprising about 45% of the berries. With a high content of carbohydrates (35-85%), soluble fibers (30.8%), minerals (3-11%), and proteins (5-11%) these are a rich source of components with multiple applications.

Coffee husks are also rich in insoluble dietary fiber, containing 24.5% cellulose, 29.7% hemicellulose and 23.7% lignin. They can also be a source of pytochemicals such as tannins (5-9%) and cyanidins (20%) for the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Owing to its high cellulose content coffee husk has been harnessed as an special environment-friendly material for the production of material boards.

This is what the Australian based company has developed as material for their Huskee cups. We totally back this innovative idea and promote the use of reusable cups obtained from a coffee by-product.
